Crossing the Bronx-Whitestone Bridge on the way from the airport to Co-Op City.

Today not only marks the day of the long overdue new version of Journal Of A Photographer, it also marks the day of a new chapter in my life. I jumped on a plane to New York yesterday arriving at JFK airport in the evening. That per se is nothing special given the fact that I have spent around two years in New York already - on and off since 2005. The situation is a bit different this time around.

After the last months of preparations (more on those in future articles) I moved to New York for good. I am basically starting a new life here. I have been working as a photographer in Austria for three years and four months now, it’s time for a change, time to do what I was thinking and occasionally talking about during the last years. I want to develop and enhance as a photographer, I want to live the life that I would not be able to live in Austria and I want to establish myself in one of the greatest cities of the world.

They say “If you can make it there you can make it anywhere”. So I figured, I’ll just move to New York during the global economic crisis and make it there. Sounds pretty self-confident, I know… Well, I am not always that confident, struggeling with myself and my abilities oftentimes. But that’s what I have to and want to do now.

I hope you’ll enjoy following my endeavors, adventures, successes and failures through the new version of Journal Of A Photographer from now on.

Well , today is march 8 2010. How are you doing so far? And the guy who started the ” if you make it in New York … ” is Frank Sinatra . And I never agreed with that one. As much as I love NY, and Franky, it is not the center of the world. I “Make it” where ever my heart is. Where ever you’re photography brings you, enjoy the journey. Making it is not important. Being happy with yourself is. Good luck.
